«The inevitability of a strange world»: the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of socio-demographic analysis

Abstract

Tracing the history of epidemics over the past one hun-dred years, the author points out the «virulent nature» of today’s civili-zation. It is shown that the intensity of pandemic processes stands in direct relationship with the «dark aspects of urbanization». As it is impossible to move back to the «normalcy» of the pre-COVID-19 era, the societies ought to generate new forms of economic and social life.
