The image of the future in the mirror of social sciences: introduction to the thematic section

Abstract

The paper examines the phenomenon of social forecasting as a special form of scientific reflection and assesses the predictive potential of contemporary social sciences. Particular attention is paid to everyday and scientific ideas of the future that have been shaped by the numerous challenges of the 21st century. It is noted that the global tectonic social transformations of recent years, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, and the collapse of the previous world order, have provoked a wave of futurophobia around the world.
