The current demographic challenges in the Russian Federation require a broad public discussion of the current situation. Consideration of the characteristics of the demographic situation in Russia and in some other countries of the world was discussed during the VIII International Winter Demographic School held on 29–31 January 2026. It was attended by faculty staff, researchers, graduate students, students and public representatives from 59 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and 13 foreign countries. The event was organized and hosted by the Department of Demography of Higher School of Contemporary Social Sciences at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Lectures were given to the participants by leading Russian demographers (V.A. Iontsev, O.D. Vorob'eva, A.I. Antonov). The event was attended by guests from China, demographers from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (Wuhan, Hubei Province).
